The Supplier Development Engineer II (Project Quality) is responsible for leading supplier quality activities supporting supplier qualification, supplier transitions, engineering changes, and part validation across global sourcing projects. This role ensures supplier changes are successfully implemented by evaluating customer impact, managing change control activities, coordinating qualification requirements, and securing timely part approvals.
Working as part of a global team, the position partners closely with Strategic Sourcing, Engineering, Manufacturing, Supplier Quality, Metrology, and Operations to drive risk assessments, validation plans, and implementation readiness while maintaining compliance with internal quality requirements.
In addition to supplier qualification activities, the role supports supplier development initiatives, supplier scouting, and continuous improvement projects to strengthen the global supply base and enable successful sourcing strategies.
This position reports to the General Supply Chain Manager within the Strategic Sourcing organization.
Key Responsibilities
Drive supplier development activities supporting supplier transitions, Make vs.
Buy projects, engineering changes, and strategic sourcing initiatives that enable productivity and supply base optimization.
Assess customer impact and coordinate change control activities (ECRs), partnering with Engineering, Quality, Manufacturing, and cross-functional teams to ensure successful project implementation and customer approvals.
Support the APQP process for supplier part validation, partnering with Sourcing Project Managers to ensure successful project execution, implementation readiness, manufacturing readiness, and validation milestone achievement.
Coordinate with Supplier Development Engineers in Manufacturing, Design and Metrology to document validation results (Fit, Form & Function, FAI/PPAP, and performance testing).
Participate in supplier scouting, evaluation, and selection processes aligned with sourcing strategies.
Assist in supplier qualification activities including capacity and capability assessments and risk mitigation evaluations.
Support data collection, reporting, and analysis for supplier development and sourcing project tracking.
Drive supplier development programs and continuous improvement initiatives with key suppliers.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Materials Engineering, or a related technical field.
3+ years of experience in Supplier Quality, Supplier Development, Manufacturing, Quality, or Engineering within a manufacturing environment.
Experience supporting supplier qualification, part validation, engineering changes, or new supplier introductions.
Working knowledge of PPAP, FAI, Fit, Form & Function validation, Engineering Change Management, and quality documentation.
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, GD&T;, technical specifications, and manufacturing requirements.
Strong analytical, organizational, and cross-functional communication skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint), Power BI and ERP systems
Fluent English (written and spoken).
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with APQP, PFMEA, Control Plans, SPC, and MSA methodologies.
Experience leading supplier qualification, supplier audits, or supplier quality improvement initiatives.
Knowledge of Engineering Change Management (ECR/ECO), change control, and customer approval processes.
Experience managing supplier quality activities within cross-functional or global projects.
Project Management certification or experience (PMP, CAPM, or equivalent) is a plus.
Experience with ERP systems and data visualization tools (SAP, Oracle, Power BI, etc.) is preferred.
