The Opportunity
Software development is moving faster than ever. AI-assisted development, continuous deployment, and rapid iteration cycles mean that quality and release discipline have become strategic advantages, not just engineering hygiene. We're looking for someone who wants to lead that discipline at scale.
We're an established startup with a next-generation platform that transforms how millions of people meet, travel, and connect around the world. We ship every day across iOS, Android, and web, and we're looking for an exceptional Senior QA & Release Manager to own the systems, processes, and people that make that possible with confidence.
If you want ownership over a live platform that real users depend on, this role is for you.
Role Summary
As Senior QA & Release Manager, you will own the end-to-end release lifecycle across iOS, Android, and web, from sprint readiness through production, while leading a team of QA engineers and setting the quality standard across engineering, product, and design.
We run a modern, automated deployment pipeline with daily releases, and our automated test coverage is already strong. What we're building now is the human layer on top of it: structured real-user testing that catches what automation can't: edge cases, UX friction, real-world device behavior, and the kinds of bugs that only surface when a real person actually uses the product. You'll lead that effort and make it a core part of how we ship.
Key Responsibilities
- Own the release pipeline across iOS, Android, and web, including App Store Connect, Google Play Console, and our CI/CD-driven deployment infrastructure
- Lead and grow a QA team: run 1:1s, mentor testers, set quality standards, and hold a high bar on every release
- Drive daily release readiness: coordinate across engineering, product, design, and support to ensure every daily release is ready to ship
- Build and run structured human testing programs: design real-user test scenarios that complement our automated pipeline, covering exploratory, cross-device, and UX-focused testing that automation doesn't catch
- Identify gaps in automated coverage: work closely with engineering to understand what's already covered and define where human judgment adds the most value
- Design and oversee test strategy: regression, smoke, exploratory, cross-device, and end-to-end scenario testing across mobile and web
- Own observability and release health: track defect trends, monitor crash rates and error signals post-deploy, and communicate clear status updates to engineering and leadership
- Run release readiness reviews and retrospectives:
surface risks proactively and drive continuous improvement
- Own hotfix and incident processes: from triage through postmortem and stakeholder communication
- Maintain QA documentation: test plans, test cases, bug reports, release notes, and runbooks
- Champion quality across the org: from design reviews through production
Required Qualifications
- 7+ years in QA engineering, release management, or a combined role
- 3–5+ years managing releases across iOS, Android, and web, including App Store Connect and Google Play Console
- Experience operating in a high-cadence release environment (daily or near-daily deployments)
- Proven track record leading and mentoring a QA team across concurrent releases
- Strong experience designing and executing human testing programs (exploratory, scenario-based, cross-device) that complement automated pipelines
- Ability to identify where human testing adds the most signal and structure programs around those gaps
- Experience designing test strategies spanning regression, smoke, exploratory, and cross-device coverage
- Proficiency with Jira or equivalent for bug triage, sprint tracking, and defect trend analysis
- Hands-on experience with API testing tools (e.g., Postman) and basic SQL for data validation
- Familiarity with crash reporting and monitoring tools (e.g., Firebase Crashlytics, Sentry, Datadog, Amplitude)
- Solid Agile/Scrum fundamentals: sprint planning, backlog grooming, retrospectives
- Strong communicator: able to translate quality signals and release risk into clear, actionable updates for both engineering teams and leadership
Preferred Experience
- Background in a consumer-facing social, marketplace, or travel app with high user volume and frequent release cadences
- Experience building or scaling QA processes from the ground up in a startup environment
- Experience running beta or early-access testing programs with real users
- Familiarity with feature flagging and canary deployments, knowing which users or segments to test against before a full rollout
- Experience with observability tooling and post-deploy monitoring as part of the release process
- Knowledge of accessibility standards (WCAG) or performance testing practices
- Familiarity with test automation frameworks (Cypress, Playwright, Appium, etc.),
enough to collaborate effectively with engineers, even if you're not writing the tests yourself
- ISTQB certification or comparable QA training
What We’re Looking For
- A quality and release leader who wants ownership, not just oversight, on a platform that ships every day
- Someone who has managed people, not just processes: a mentor who raises the bar on what gets shipped
- A structured thinker who brings calm and clarity to a fast-moving release environment without losing speed
- Comfort with ambiguity and a growth mindset; we adopt new tools, frameworks, and practices as the platform evolves
- A collaborative team player who values in-person time; we work together in the office Tuesdays and Thursdays
What You’ll Gain
- Competitive salary aligned with experience and contribution
- Real ownership in a company where the quality of your work is directly visible to millions of users
- The opportunity to build release and quality infrastructure from a strong foundation and keep raising it
- Career growth in a dynamic, high-impact role at a company that moves fast and rewards initiative
