Role Summary/Purpose: Lead and perform mechanical design and analysis of wind
turbine tower components within the Drives & Structures COE. The Design
Engineer supports the product through the entire lifecycle from conceptual
design through design and development, testing, qualification, manufacturing
and installed fleet support. They drive technical excellence and continuous
improvement in the design, cost, producibility and reliability of the
component(s) under their responsibility.
Essential Responsibilities:
– Design tower components for wind turbines
– Responsible for Design, Development, and Testing to prove component
function and reliability
– Provide innovative design solutions to meet aggressive timing, product cost
and reliability targets
– Create and revise drawings, specifications and design practices applying GE
and industry processes and standards
– Work cross functionally with quality teams, manufacturing engineers,
sourcing, suppliers, field support and others to improve product quality and
first time yield
– Support manufacturing, sourcing and field support with issue resolution and
quick corrective actions for design related causes (NCR, SDR, PAC)
– Drive quick, complete technical root cause analysis of field failures and
identify design related corrective actions to prevent recurrence
– Support global supply chain activities for quality assurance and
fulfillment across the globe
– Identify and execute cost saving ideas and strategies
– Drive lessons learned, best practices and standardization into drawings,
specifications, design practices and processes
– Mentor and provide guidance to professional and lead band engineers.
– Partner with towers Principal Engineer on executing technical projects
which advance the technology.
– Bachelor Degree in Engineering or equivalent
– 6+ years of Engineering or equivalent experience
– Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
– Ability to work with global team members across cultural boundaries – US,
Germany, India, Brazil, Mexico.
– Fluent in English, written and spoken

– Undergraduate specialization in Mechanical, Structural or Materials
– Masters Degree in Mechanical, Structural or Materials Engineering
– GE business tools and practices expertise
– Six Sigma Greenbelt Certification (GE Employees only)
– Wind turbine experience
– Proven project, program leadership experience
– Experience in mechanical engineering including ventilation, filtration.
– Experience in mechanical analysis – finite element analysis and/or CFD.
– Working knowledge of 3D-CAD tools like NX
– Working knowledge of ANSYS or other finite element analysis tools
– Technical drawing, GD&T; and design interpretation background
– Experience working in a manufacturing and/or assembly facility
– Experience working with suppliers, OEMs or customers
– Experience leading resolution of complex multifaceted technical problems.
