General Information:
TransCanada has a history of natural gas pipeline infrastructure development
in Mexico. We have built effective relationships and an excellent corporate
reputation in the country. Mexico is a part of our North American strategy and
our objective is to grow our position in Mexico’s natural gas transmission
In 2012, TransCanada was awarded three large natural gas pipeline
infrastructure projects: Tamazunchale Extension Pipeline (235 km of 30/36”,
now completed), and Topolobampo (560 km of 30”) and Mazatlán (420 km of 24”)
Pipelines, both scheduled to finish in 2016. Also in November 2015,
TransCanada was awarded a project to construct a 36” 265 km of pipeline in
Central Mexico from Tuxpan to Tula.
In April 2016, TransCanada was awarded an additional project to construct a
36” 292 km pipeline from Tula to Villa de Reyes, which also includes a 24” 112
km lateral to Salamanca. Facilities for this project include two Compressor
Stations and five Meter Stations.
We are currently looking for a Senior Project Engineer (Facilities and
Pipeline) to support the Tula – Villa de Reyes project. Position will report
to the Engineering Manager for Mexico Projects Implementation.
The approximate duration of this assignment is 2 years, commencing as soon as

of the position, there will be approximately 50% travel to the field

*This position is eligible for domestic relocation assistance within Mexico.
-Coordinate detailed review and assessment of technical information provided to and received from the client and consultants/contractors for the design and construction of the facilities;
– Coordinate monitoring of consultants and contractors regarding project
scope, quality, cost and schedule, focusing on engineering;
Verify compliance of contractors with the terms of applicable contractual agreements, Normas Oficiales Mexicanas NOM (Official Mexican Standards), TransCanada’s Standards and Specifications, and other applicable regulations, codes, practices and standards;
-Ensure the project team in understands design drawings, specifications and technical reports;
-Provide technical input for queries and responses to the project team, client, consultants and contractors;
-Apply standardized project management tools, processes and templates, aligned with the Project Development System (PDS) to develop project implementation plans, input to risk assessments and various other types of project activities;
-Coordinate facilities engineering and project teams in the preparation of project documentation;
-Review and provide feedback to inspection reports, instruction manuals and other technical data;
-Support continuous improvement by developing relationship with extended TransCanada engineering support, sharing of lessons learned to provide ideas to enhance future projects;
-Coordinate preparation of materials Requisitions and follow up on Purchase Orders, as well as provide input during procurement process;
-Assist in coordination of material supply, expediting and logistics;
-Assist in preparation/review of change management documents, schedules and budgets;
-Interaction with other project team members and departments within the Projects team, TransCanada, Consultants and Client. Some groups include Environment, Land, Commercial, Project Development, Supply Chain, Safety, as well as other Engineering disciplines;
-Assist Project Manager in the completion and reporting of project commitments internally and to third party stakeholders;
-Participate in established safety management programs, commit to performing all assigned activities safely, and report any unsafe conditions encountered immediately;
-Attend and support Project Management during contractor meetings, HAZOP reviews, engineering/technical design reviews and lesson learned sessions;
-Provide technical support for construction, construction coordination and commissioning;
-Review construction implementation to ensure it meets the design and standards, including direct work with construction inspection teams to ensure inspection is adequate and follows design;
-Coordinate with Construction Manager and Project Manager to ensure focus on critical areas, Change Orders are technically correct and trends are tracked internally and with contractors;
-Coordinate technical responses to RFIs (Request for Information) during construction;
-Assist in the preparation of turnover packages and as-built drawings;

-Strong analytical and technical abilities; able engineering principles to develop solutions, recommend improvements, and identify issues;
-Ability to negotiate with and influence others.
-Engineering Degree with -10 – 15 years of engineering, design and construction experience within the natural gas industry;
– experience in natural gas facilities engineering including design,
construction, start-up, commissioning, and standards is a desirable asset;
-Capable of providing technical direction to engineering and design teams;
-Experience in managing relationships with engineering contractors and EPC arrangements;
-Fluency in both English and Spanish languages is a strong asset.

*Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home.
