Role Summary/Purpose: Lead and perform the design and analysis of wind turbine
cast and/or welded fabricated structural components including the rotor hub,
machine head bedplate, generator frame, walkways, ladders and accessories. The
Design Engineer supports the product through its entire life cycle from
conceptual to final design, testing, qualification, manufacturing and
installed fleet support
Essential Responsibilities:
– Responsible for design, development and testing of fabricated and/or cast
structural components and bolted joints for wind turbines
– Perform structural design analysis using finite element methods
– Create and revise drawings, specifications and design practices applying GE
and industry processes and standards
– Develop field or lab prototype test plans and evaluate data to prove
component function and reliability
– Work cross functionally with quality teams, manufacturing engineers,
sourcing, suppliers, field support and others to improve product quality and
first time yield
– Support manufacturing, sourcing and the field with issue resolution and
quick corrective actions for design related causes
– In-person support of global supply chain activities for quality assurance
and fulfillment across the globe
– Identify and execute cost saving ideas and strategies
– Drive lessons learned, best practices and standardization into drawings,
specifications, and design practices
– Identifies inefficiencies in the design process and drives solutions to
improve quality and productivity
– Bachelor Degree in Engineering
– Minimum 5 years of engineering experience or equivalent

– Master’s Degree in Mechanical or Structural Engineering
– GE Business tools and practices expertise
– Edison or ACE program graduate (GE Employee Only)
– Cast or welded fabrication structural design experience
– Experience with 3D-CAD tools (NX/Unigraphics preferred)
– Experience with ANSYS or other finite element analysis tools
– Welding or Sand casting manufacturing, material and NDT knowledge
– Bolted joint design experience
– Technical drawing, GD&T; and design interpretation background
– Experience or interest in computer programming
– Proven project, program leadership experience
– Ability to work under pressure and challenging conditions
– Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
– Ability to work with global team members across cultural boundaries
– Wind turbine experience
