leading research and consulting business, our client list spans major players
in global energy, including production companies, financial institutions and
service companies. We are looking for a Principal Researcher for our Latin
American team, based in Mexico City.
In this role, you will function as a core member of the team to produce
quality analysis to create reports, consulting deliverables, and client-facing
General Job Duties:
-Perform hands-on analysis for IHS Latin America research team addressing the full spectrum of natural gas issues in Mexico: upstream, midstream, market analyses, import/export projections, refining, infrastructure constraints, and investment strategies.
-Develop, design and implement research activities, including generating data, analysis, and insights in support of retainer reports, multi-client studies, site visits, consulting projects, and client presentations.
-Articulate key upstream/midstream issues including financing, technical challenges, regulations, investment environment, and markets outlook via written reports and presentations.
-Create and maintain databases as necessary to support analysis and modeling of such topics as natural gas supply, demand, price, finance, and corporate strategy.
-Ability to use, interpret and conduct analyses using modeling tools for natural gas markets such as Gas Pipeline Competition Model (GPCM)
-Maintain cutting edge assessment of regulatory issues, challenges, and potential solutions.
-Support and contribute to the continued flow of crucial thought-leading research papers on developments in the Mexican natural gas market and its connection with regional markets.
-Provide analytic support to the Latin America Gas & Power, North American Gas, and IHS Global Energy Scenarios research teams and contribute to multi-client studies and consulting projects covering the energy industry.
-Process, synthesize and integrate diverse inputs at an advanced level to create organized and user-friendly databases and support accurate, insightful and in-depth retainer research.
-Interface with other experts in the region to ensure consistency in IHS’s research across different markets and functional areas.
-Develop relationships and understanding of data, analysis, and other resources provided by other teams within IHS.
-Develop tables, charts, and PowerPoint presentations for retainer reports, roundtables, and other client presentations.
-Contribute and develop consulting proposals and projects as needed.
-Participate in meetings, conferences, briefings and other public outreach that will demonstrate IHS expertise in natural gas issues in Mexico and contribute to expanding IHS’s customer base for consulting and subscription services.
-Establish and maintain contacts in government, industry and the financial sector with key players affecting the development of natural gas resources and the natural gas market in Mexico.
-Respond to client inquiries by phone or email, briefings to clients, and travel to meet clients and make presentations.
-Engage with IHS colleagues on sales, marketing, research and management teams to develop and contribute to commercial strategies to expand IHS’s client base in Mexico and the region.
-Minimum of five years of experience.
-Strong written and oral presentation skills in English and Spanish (Portuguese a plus)
-Minimum qualifications are BSc. in economics or engineering preferably related to oil and gas industry. Post graduate degree a plus (preferably in economics or engineering or finance).
Other skills
-Good knowledge of Excel, Word and Power Point
-Must be capable of carrying out detailed analysis and able to build industry/markets supply/demand models.
-Good writing and presentation skills.
-Must have an analytical frame of mind and prepared to use data to back up opinions.
-Some travel is required average around 20% of time, but could occasionally be more.
-Ability to work well in a team oriented environment providing ideas and open feedback.
-Highly organized, creative and proactive to ensure deadlines are met consistently with high quality output.
